Pocahontas Island Black History Museum
The Pocahontas Island Black History Museum, located on the historic Pocahontas Island in Petersburg, VA, once a stop on the Underground Railroad, represents the oldest Black American community in America. The museum's founder, Mr. Richard Stewart, is a Civil War and Black history expert who founded the museum in 2003 as a tribute to the proud and industrious men and women who made Pocahontas Island their home and contributed to its cultural fabric.
